Sharp Manufacturing Company of U.K. (SUKM: a manufacturing division of Sharp Electronics (U.K.) Ltd.) supported a local community's celebration of the 30th anniversary of their environmental project to turn abandoned industrial land into a nature and beauty spot.
On March 10, a Spring Fair was held by the organization, 'The Friends of Ifton Meadows', set up to restore a twenty hectare site and former colliery near Overton, just a few miles from the factory that organized the ceremony. The fair included the official opening of a new road that would provide improved access to the meadows, particularly for the disabled.
Nowadays, the site is particularly abundant in skylarks, butterflies and wild flowers such as spotted orchids, and many people enjoy the beauty of this site with its wildlife.
Prior to this, on 1st May, to mark the event, SUKM donated a microwave oven as one of the prizes for the raffle at the Spring Fair, the proceeds of which will help in providing more funding so that 'The Friends of Ifton Meadows' can continue their excellent work.
